Surrey Cup – 19th October 2003

This was an important game for the team - a win would take us on to the next round of the Surrey Cup and the whole team seemed to be appropriately fired up from the start of the match.  Epsom Dodgers also made a bright start and forced an excellent save from the Carshalton keeper, Mitchell Barwell early on.  The first goal of the match came from Craig Lewin with an excellent shot which the keeper had no chance of saving.  Two further goals followed in quick succession giving Craig his hat-trick.  The defenders played a great game and a pat on the back must go to Tom, Tom, Leon and Luke who thwarted Epsom’s attempts at goal.  Many other Carshalton chances failed to find the back of the net but the lads played a blistering first half.

The second half began as the first half ended with Carshalton’s domination of the game from the start.  The fourth goal of the day came from Dean Bruce whose pace had caused Epsom a lot of problems throughout.  Epsom answered with a goal of their own scored from a free kick headed home at the back post.  Leon Cole played a fantastic second half and on many occasions looked like scoring but couldn’t find the back of the net.  With only a few minutes to go Andy Bitmead took a great corner and Tom Hughes fired an excellent header into the back of the net.

The whole team played well together throughout and JJ’s encouragement often helped the team focus on their first win of the season. Well done lads.
