Friendly – 7th August 2003
Goals, goals, goals. On a very hot, dry evening the team took a trip up the A3 to play Colliers Wood United in the second phase of Graham Polley's pre season preparation. The game started dead on seven and Carshalton came out of the blocks like a bullet from a gun. On Tuesday, some of the lads were struggling to find their first touch - not tonight. Everything just seemed to work. Six minutes into the game and after a goal mouth scrap Tom Lawler opened the account. Following this we all were privileged to witness a superb long range shot from Darren Wells that left the Colliers Wood goal keeper standing as it flew into the net. Two minutes later Jack Mesure got his first when he capitalised on a long ball to shoot home.
Colliers Wood then seemed to have a better spell, but no matter how they tried Tom Lawler, Stevie Greenslade, Dave Booth and Darren Wells were just two strong. Luke Adams was his usual excellent self and Dan Coombes who was back after a bad stint of cleaning cars just seemed to be running midfield. Gradually Carshalton took more and more control and then on the half hour Chris Tupper slotted home.
Eight minutes later and Jack Mesure scored again and hell bent on his hat trick he scored yet again 60 seconds later and Carshalton went into the half time change over 6-0 up. Lots of changes in the second half with James Holland and Chris Tompson coming on. Graham Polley then took the chance to play players out of position. Yes that was Mark Cowhig outfield and how well he did.
Four more goals in the second half from Oliver Adams who had one of the best games I have seen him have on 55mins, Tyson Phillips (60 mins) Chris Tupper (65 mins) and Tyson again as the game came to an end. Good all round run out and a good way to improve the players' match fitness.
Finally I would just like to congratulate Colliers Wood for the commitment they showed. They never gave up and I feel sure everyone will wish to join me in saying these lads were a credit to their manager, parents and football.
