WSYL Cup - 26th October 2003
I think the boys were looking forward to this match with relish, after beating Uxbridge in the league a few weeks ago, and coming away with cuts and bruises to show for it. This was obviously going to be a grudge match with Uxbridge wanting to beat us. We had a great start, a peach of a goal in about 4 minutes approx from Jack Mesure.
We then seemed to ease off, don’t know why, but we paid the penalty, with Uxbridge scoring a very scrappy goal. They were on their uppers, possibly a big scalp, when bang all of a sudden we were 2-1 down, from a cross/come shot. But they don’t really know Carshalton F.C.- our resolve, our history, we don’t give up , and late in the 1st half – GOLDEN BALLS Jack Mesure got his 2nd goal, 2-2 – Game On.
Half time came and Jack Goodman went off to view a Ryman League game (sorry), that was an insult to the Ryman League (hahaha), and missed a proper game. What a performance – every player deserved a medal, from my point of view, this team is not about individuals, its about a team performance and this is what Uxbridge were faced with.
The second half performance was outstanding and we got our just rewards, when Darren Wells putting us 3 –2 up, with a cracker. I’ve been involved with his team for a long time, and the things you do – results etc, always have impressed me, l am not accustomed to writing match reports, but in all honesty, we have a squad and on today’s performance we don’t have to fear anyone.
Again all credit to Uxbridge, they did not let up. However, class told in the end and yes it happened again - Jack Mesure got his second hat trick in a week.
Overall, every player contributed so much, and yes we have to acknowledge the goal scorers, but unsung heroes are the back bone of the team, we must also acknowledge our brilliant goalie, who week in and week out, pulls off some wonderful saves, and keeps the ever strong back 4 as solid as a rock, and the mid field who are tireless and just keep going and going, and the subs who come on and just get stuck in, yes we are a GREAT TEAM
Well done boys
