AFA Youth Cup - 2nd November 2003

An early start with a meet at 9am at Wallington Station and then a long journey to Norsemen’s ground in Edminton.   Norsemen have excellent facilities and are clearly a very professional outfit.  We received a warm welcome and would like to thank them for their kind hospitality.  The sandwiches after the game were very well received.

The weather was the real killer.  It rained and rained and I would like to thank all the parents who travelled for the support they gave the boys.  I am sure it was appreciated.

The game started a little late but even though Carshalton had several players out, the boys were clearly up for the game and wanting to show the AFA how well they can play.  Within six minutes of the start, Chris Tupper fired the first goal home and it was clear the team were not taking any prisoners.  Every boy played well, the passing was a revelation and the goals did not stop coming.  12-0 is good, but as well as this, we hit the woodwork three times, had a goal disallowed and played with 10 players for about 15 minutes.  A great team performance!!!!

The defence, led by Darren Wells the captain, was great with James Holland, Stevie Greenslade and Jack Goodman outstanding.  The midfield was solid with terrific effort from Tyson Phillips who got two goals, Rob Turner, who got one goal, Dan Coombes (does he ever give up) and Oliver Adams who got five.  In attack Mark Pucek made a great contribution setting up several of the goals and Chris Tupper  just scored and scored.  Jack Mesure put in some good work when he came on but succumbed to a back injury and had to come off.

Pictures show Chris Tupper and Oliver Adams scoring.

A big well done to the Norsemen lads – what a great bunch of boys you are.  You never stopped running and played a great part in making this a very entertaining game to watch.  It is a mark of your professionalism that at the end you were the first to wish Carshalton well for the next round.  Carshalton wish you well in the Cheshunt League.

Great boys well done in horrid conditions.

Lee Tupper
