Surrey Cup 2nd Round - 16th November 2003
After a late start due
to Roehampton going to the Little League venue, we finally got going at about
12.15. Mark Adams (left) was manager for the day although team selection was by
Graham Polley. Graham was sitting his FA Level 1 Coaching qualification and
was only able to see a few minutes of the game.
Roehampton are a very well organised side with great attitude and a professional management team. To be honest the Roehampton boys were a credit to their parents, coaching staff and manager and really took the game to Carshalton.
Chris Tupper opened the scoring with an opportunistic goal after some good work from the Carshalton midfield led by Oliver Adams and Dan Coomes. Notwithstanding Carshalton taking the lead early, Roehampton were playing well and Stevie Greenslade made some trade mark tackles to keep Carshalton ahead. Darren Wells was doing a great job as captain and Jack Goodman kept the Roehampton forwards under control. Whilst Carshalton were playing well, there was no spark. This was soon to be rectified when - my man of the match Robert or is it Bert Turner. – Lee/ Yvonne I prefer Robert - started to make his mark. Everyone knows what a skilful player Rob is but his contribution today was very good.
Half time went and Carshalton soon put their marker down. Chris Tupper fired a superb goal, which nearly took the net out at the Roehampton end soon after half time. Rob or Bert (this is getting difficult and may need a player vote) followed this up with a shot, which not only caused the back of the net to nearly take off but had the supported in heaven. Whilst Roehampton had got one back Tyson Phillips was threatening and put away a cool goal to finish the day.
Playing sides from the lower divisions is always difficult. Roehampton in my mind should be in the Premiership. They worked hard, were organised and played well – we wish them well in the League
Firework Night will be soon and a big thank you to Ray Coombes and Peter Booth for sponsoring a firework. We are looking for one/two more Dads to show their generosity (say £10) to make this a special night and help us raise funds. Training Thursday 7.45pam - can the lads please bring £2 as a contribution to the Under 16’s BIG firework – each side has been asked to provide one big firework.
We remain on track well done boys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Lee Tupper
