WSYL - 4th January 2004

First games of the New Year are often the graveyards of many a good side.  Too much Christmas pud; a few too many shots (salad cream a feature), often makes the boys ill prepared for the first game of the New Year.  Not this Carshalton lot, who seem to have bought into the Youth Section's motto - Fail to prepare - prepare to fail - big time.  Certainly Rob Turner has, as he was cleaning his boots like mad just 30 minutes before the game.  Well done Rob and didn't it pay off.  Whilst you did not get on the score sheet you had a great game.

The game started slowly for Carshalton and there was great concern that complacency had crept in during the holiday period.  In the first ten minutes the passing was poor and the effort not there.  However, all that soon changed when Jack Mesure scored Carshalton's opener and in doing so opened the flood gates.  Let's not distract from Motspur who are a good side and to their credit did not stop battling.  However, they met a goal hungry Carshalton.

Chris Tupper got two, the Adams brothers one each and Tyson Phillips also found the net after a lot of hard work. The Carshalton defence was as good as ever, save for the goal - still no-one can moan - they have only conceded 3 in the League this season.  The rearranged midfield featuring a new Tupper / Williams central partnership had a great game - albeit nice to see Dan return for the final few minutes.

The Manager's Man of the match?  Who knows.  What parent would be brave enough to try to pick - they are all so good.  Well the verdict came down with Darren  Wells getting the honour.

As I sit here on Sunday night writing this result sad old ...........you might say - I have just got the rest of the weekend's results.

Tooting & Mitcham 1 Meadow 1
Ashford Town 1 Carshalton Rangers 1

OK, a good weekend but next weekend is even bigger.  League Cup Semi Final against Westfield.  I know Tom Lawler is looking forward to this game and Stevie Greenslade I am sure the lads will be looking for a result especially for you.  Thursday training at 8pm and we would like you all there please.

Well done lads for today.
