Carshalton U9s

2 Lewis Bray 2

WSYL  – 5th October 2003

Carshalton under 9s continued their 100% start to the league campaign with a convincing 2-0 win at Cheam Sports.  In reality the 2-0 scoreline did not reflect the dominance that Carshalton enjoyed throughout the game.  Right from the start, Carshalton showed their intentions and Joseph hit the near post from a tight angle in the first 20 seconds.  That set the tone for the rest of the game.

Ben hit the underside of the bar rounding off a fine passing move, Lewis shot wide when set up 10 yards from goal, Ben blasted a long range shot just wide, Lewis headed just wide from Conor's cross, Lewis had a shot well saved and Lewis had another shot just wide of the target - and all this was in the last 12 minutes of the half, as Carshalton piled on the pressure

The deadlock was broken right after the restart.  Playing with the wind and the slope, Carshalton piled forward and Arran's through ball set up Lewis whose shot from 8 yards was too hot for the keeper to handle.  The rest of the half was played almost exclusively in the Cheam Sports half as Carshalton strived for the second goal.  Ben smacked in another fine shot that was deflected for a corner.  Somehow we managed to get the ball from the corner back back to Daniel in goal, who picked the ball up and the resultant free kick gave Cheam their best chance of the game!!  However, they were unable to breach the defence.

With time running out, Carshalton made sure of the points when Ruaridh won the ball at the halfway line and picked out Lewis who was unmarked just outside the box.  Lewis set himself and unleashed an unstoppable first time shot that flew into the far corner - what a goal!  And with that, the game ended.  Many thanks to Mark Gardner for stepping as referee when Cheam's ref cried off at the last minute.

Once again everyone can be pleased with their performance - see how good we are when we pass the ball.  Though everyone played well, I'll mention our defence of Conor and Owen who looked impregnable - and our 2 goal hero Lewis, who was a constant danger.

Carshalton are now one of only 2 teams with a 100% record in the league, and are the only team yet to concede a goal.  Next week we play our first competitive home game when Premier Division Molesey Juniors visit Beddington Park for a League Cup first round tie.  All spectators are welcome to the 10am kick off.
