WSYL – 2nd November 2003

Carshalton U9s turned in their most impressive performance of the season so far to overpower their opponents on Sunday.  Things did not start too well, with the original venue being rained off once we arrived at the ground.  However, Camberley were able to relocate the game to their normal home pitch.  Many thanks to Ian Wilson and his team for arranging this at short notice.  Thankfully the torrential rain relented just in time for the game.

Carshalton started off like a house on fire and forced an early corner.  A training ground move paid off with Ruaridh firing in a shot that took a deflection on the way in.  Within 5 minutes Jordan released Arran through on the last defender, who he left in his wake before firing high into the net to make it 2-0.  Camberley gradually clawed their way back into the match and we had to rely on a spectacular tip over the bar from Daniel from a powerful free kick to keep our 2 goal advantage.  However, Camberley continued to press and forced an own goal after a good cross to cut our advantage at halftime to 2-1.

Having studied these things, The Management came to the conclusion that the next goal would be crucial.  We urged more effort and were rewarded by a scintillating second half performance.  Lewis started the goal fest with a shot that squirmed through the unfortunate keeper's legs.  Lewis grabbed his second with a wrong-footing tap in from a wonderful cross by Arran.

Another powerful free kick from Camberley's Stuart Pearce-like free kick specialist cut the deficit to 4-2.  Joseph almost provided the perfect reply but his long range shot flew just wide.  Shortly afterwards Ruaridh had a good run down the wing and Arran crashed a shot beyond the keeper's reach.  Soon after it was 6-2 when Ruaridh walloped in a direct free kick and the scoring was rounded off when Ruaridh completed his hattrick with a shot that sneaked in at the near post.

The best individual moment of the game came after the scoring had completed.  Another howitzer of a free kick from Camberley seemed destined for the net, when Daniel somehow flung himself to his right and palmed the ball out.  Quite brilliant.  As well as all those mentioned, we were indebted to another fine performance in defence by Owen and Conor, who have developed an excellent partnership.  Jordan, Ben and Luke played no small part with battling performances in midfield and they all contributed with some fine runs and passes to what was an outstanding team performance.

Next week's game is a showdown between the only teams with 100% records as Whitton Town visit Beddington Park.  Support from family, friends and Club members will be welcomed as always.
