WSYL – 1st February 2004

Carshalton U9s had threatened to do something like this all season.  In the second half we converted just about every chance that came our way.  It was a different story in the first half where chance after chance went begging.  A combination of bar, post, incredible misses and outstanding saves from the Hampton keeper meant that with 17 minutes gone, the score was still 0-0.  Surely it wasn't going to be one of those days.

Well after Birthday boy Jordan opened the scoring, putting the ball into the open goal after Owen's shot had come back off the woodwork, there was no way back for Hampton.  A second came soon after when Arran's perceptive throw in released Jordan in on goal and added his second comfortably.

At halftime we made a number of changes in personnel and positions.  This had a devastating effect.  Goals just kept on coming throughout the half.  Ruaridh's corner was met a yard out - by Jordan for his hattrick.  No. 4 was scored again by Jordan when a goal kick went straight to him and he volleyed home.  The 5th came when Lewis volleyed home Ruaridh's throw in.  The 6th was scored by Ruaridh when another goal kick went straight to him and he finished confidently.  The 7th was scored from the spot by Conor.  His shot was unstoppable into the top corner.  Jordan then got himself back on the scoresheet when he skipped a couple of challenges and finished neatly.  He added the 9th with a shot that seemed to go through the keeper.

The best goal of the game was next.  Ben went on an excellent run and crossed for Jordan who flicked it on to Lewis, who unleashed an unstoppable shot.  Jordan got the 11th from close range and the 12th when he followed up a shot from Ben.  The scoring was completed by Lewis's hattrick goal, when Arran went on a run, passed to Lewis who let the ball run and then squeezed the ball home from a tight angle.

It is to Hampton's credit that they did not allow their heads to drop.  They continued to battle and their keeper made some fine saves.  We enjoyed the company of their management and supporters and wish them well for the rest of the season.

Well done boys.  It was good to see the enthusiasm, both when the goals were flowing, and more importantly, when things weren't going our way in the first half.  Next week will be our biggest game of the season when we travel to unbeaten Hampton Wanderers.  Last week was a confidence booster for the forwards, but it will be a completely different game this week
