Hampton Wanderers

2

Carshalton U9s

1 Lewis Bray

WSYL – 8th February 2004

What a day and what a game.  Unfortunately the weather meant this game was going to be a bit of a lottery, but both sets of players contributed to an excellent game of football.  The howling gale made things especially difficult for spectators as well as players.

Hampton Wanderers started very strongly and applied early pressure.  As the game progressed though, Carshalton took the upper hand for much of the first period, but went into the break 1-0 down thanks to a fine move and wonderful strike from Hampton's outstanding no. 9.

In the second half, Carshalton threw everything at the league's meanest defence and they were rewarded with an equaliser when the ball bobbled in the box and Lewis latch on to trundle the ball into the far corner of the net.  It seemed like the momentum was with Carshalton and we were about to inflict the first league defeat on Hampton.  But they are a very well organised team and they showed their resilience and just how dangerous they are on the break when they scored the winner with 10 minutes to go, much against the run of play at the time.

A thoroughly enjoyable game which was watched by 2 sets of enthusiastic supporters.  Thanks to all for contributing, especially those in the green, white and black.  I have purposely left out names in this report, as the players truly played as a team with everyone contributing.  Certainly the most enjoyable performance of the season as far as the managers were concerned.  The attitude of the players was really pleasing and we answered a lot of questions.

Once again we are indebted to the continual positive support the boys get every week.  You turn up to support them in exactly the right way no matter the circumstances and we are very proud of this.
