Friendly – 7th April 2004
Carshalton U9s entertained The Wolves from the Epsom & Ewell League in a friendly in this evening kick off. The game was played immediately after a downpour and consequently the ball zipped about on the greasy surface. The Wolves settled quicker and built a 2 goal lead in the first half with some very good football. Carshalton players were very tentative and were extremely grateful for an inspired goalkeeping performance from Daniel. One tip round the post in the first half was worthy of the Champions League.
After a halftime team talk of Ranieri proportions (no-one understood what I was on about), the boys in green rolled up their sleeves and became a lot more positive. Carshalton pulled a goal back when Lewis's corner was knocked into his own goal by the keeper under pressure. Other than that, he had an excellent game between the sticks. As the game came to a conclusion, The Wolves seemed poised to extend their lead, but Dan made the double save of the season. You had to be there to believe it. Carshalton piled the pressure on in the closing stages and were rewarded with an equaliser when Owen pounced on a scrambled clearance to power an unstoppable drive in off the far post. What a strike.
We were indebted to some excellent individual performances. Lewis led the line well and combined well with Arran who had another excellent game in the roving midfield role. Everyone else can be proud of their second half performances.
Many thanks to Graham and his team for some wonderful entertainment and for playing the game in a very sporting manner. In particular I'd like to thank him for insisting on a drop ball when they made it 3-0 as the result of an injury to our keeper. Well played all.
