Temple Bar

3

Carshalton Vets

3 Tony van Emst, Gavin Dykes, Gary Wing

Friendly – 30th November 2002

With Jim Finn taking a well-earned rest, deputy skipper Ian Newman, without his glasses, struggled to read the team sheet and player positions given to him.  The Vets started brightly, had all the early play and soon went ahead with a goal from the Tony van Emst.  An unexpected Temple Bar equaliser soon followed when a pinpoint cross was bundled in by one of their forwards.  The Vets were soon ahead again with a Gavin Dykes goal and this was then followed by a potential goal of the season.  Picking up the ball in the centre of the field, Gary Wing took a couple of strides forward and unleashed a perfect shot into the top right hand corner of the opposition goal.  It could have been 4-1 soon after when a dubious penalty was awarded.  A Temple Bar defender fell in the area, followed by the Dutchman.  The penalty was awarded.  Bobby Horn was asked to take it but hit the post.  Justice done? Before half time a long ball over the Carshalton defence found a Temple Bar forward who drove powerfully through the Vets keeper’s legs.

In the second half, both sides struggled to make chances on a heavy pitch.  It got darker but did not rain.  The half never seemed to end as the referee lost all track of time.  A corner for Temple Bar was headed powerfully into the net and the referee allegedly celebrated his team’s equaliser before blowing the final whistle.  “We wuz robbed”.
