1 Bobby Horn

Maori

Friendly – 5th April 2003

After a disappointing game against Polytechnic 2 weeks ago, we needed to play much better against Maori and we did. Maori were stronger than the last time we played them, having recruited 4 new players. They started off as if they would score several, but we defended well and hung on under the pressure. Then we created a couple of chances, the first hitting the post after a turn and shot from Robbie Horn and the second, a good header from Chris Moggridge, going just over.

More pressure from Maori and chances, but we took the lead just after Dean Parfitt had gone close with an excellent effort.  A cross from the right looked as if the Maori goalkeeper would collect, but Robbie Horn nipped in to put us ahead. After half time, we lost Mike Briggs to a back injury and Maori continued to attack and about 15 mins from the end equalised shortly after they had crashed a header against the bar. We still could have won it when a couple of shots from Peter Culham were kept out by their keeper.  All in all, a fair result against good opposition.
