Carshalton Vets

4 Gavin Dykes, Scott Funnell, Norman Joss, Peter Street

Friendly – 17th September 2005

Midst the hushed surrounds of a summery south London day, with the mesmeric chirps of wildfowl and West Ham fans, a team of green warriors strode forth onto the pitch of dreams.  As the newly spectacled referee signalled for kick off, there was an air of fervent anticipation, which quickly came to fruition.  Pin point passes soon saw Gavin and Scott terrorising each side of the opposition's defence, while our stalwart defence held firm, coping with several long balls aimed at our new young-looking left back.  Despite going close with several long range scorchers, the half time whistle paused proceedings with the score at 0-0.

However, within minutes of the restart, a trademark - Beckhamesque cross from Sam enabled Gavin to set up Scott for his first goal of the season...  a right foot thunderbolt from 5 yards out.  In a similar manner to the New Orleans police department, this long awaited action finally opened the flood gates... and further goals were inevitable...

Perhaps the pick of these (though Pete and Gavin will undoubtedly disagree) involved a certain right back / right winger by the name of Norman "Stormin" Joss.  With the guile of a caged ninja, Norm had cunningly lost his marker and thus received the ball in space on the right hand side of the goal.  Instinctively, Norm calculated the precise angle in which he could carefully curl the ball forwards, and, using a defender's arse, deflect the ball into the net.  Perhaps he wanted to taunt the opposition with their own inability...

Needless to say, the fearlesss Vets, battled on until the final whistle - keeping a clean sheet - and driving home 4-0 victors.
