Carshalton Vets

1 Chris Moggridge

Friendly – 8th October 2005

This was one of the strongest sides we have played against in the last few years with several new faces in their team. Of note was their centre forward, 38, lean, skilful , fast who was playing for their first team last year and also represented the League. And there were a couple more like him as well.

We were unlucky not to have one of our three goalkeepers available, but both Mike Briggs and Scott Funnell [who injured his groin in the first half] volunteered and both did well. In spite of their strength, we were probably disappointed with a couple of goals we gave away which possibly could have been avoided.

We were 3-0 down at half time and 4-0 shortly after the break. What was very encouraging was that we did not give up and everyone worked hard. We actually played some nice football in the second half and we deserved our goal from Chris Moggridge. It was a delightful chip from the edge of the area with the goalie stranded. A few minutes later a great shot from Gavin Dykes narrowly failed to find the back of the net.

It might seem odd that on the back of a 5-1 beating, all of us seemed to enjoy the game. If we hadn’t made the effort, they could have reached double figures.
