The fact that I am writing this report sums up the way we played!  The Dutchman passed the job to the ‘Norm’ and, like all but two of our passes today, it went astray!  It’s always nice to say positives came out of a game, and this was positively our worst display of the season.  Even Chris Hithersay failed to pass to one of our players (it would be unfair to say ‘no change there then’) so no change there then!

Having our matches cancelled the previous two weeks highlighted the general fitness levels of the Vets, most of whom had not kicked a ball in that time, (or ever it seemed!)  We were competitive for about an hour (if not very good) and turned around 1-0 down.

Early in the second half, Brian suffered a second bout of cramp, and left the field (failing to finish a game yet again!) to herald the return of Ian Newman (who proved to be our only ray of sunshine). A 25 yard strike sailed over Gills for their second, persuading him that he couldn’t do any worse than the outfield players, and he changed positions with Sam. This change had immediate results as the opposition were reduced to ten men. We managed to apply a little more pressure at this point with Pete Culham making some excellent runs (definitely a change there!). However we were caught by two sucker punches, down their right, as our left back seemed to have gone AWOL. One of these goals led Chris to comment ”He just told you what he was going to do, and you still let him do it!”

The silence in the dressing room afterwards was testimony to how happy we were with our performances.
